Barry County Special Area Land Treatment Project (SALT) Going Strong!

The Barry County Soil and Water Conservation District received funding for a seven year Agriculture Non-Point Source Special Area Land Treatment Project funded by the Department of Natural Resources that started July 1, 2004.  The goals of this project are to educate people, implement conservation practices, and improve the water quality in the Flat Creek Watershed.   Now, three years into the project we are surpassing the goals thus far for the grant.  We have been holding field days, informational meetings, producing newsletters for both educators and landowners and providing cost-share practices for landowners that want to implement conservation practices on their farms.  Pictured above is our latest activity "Kid's Day"  this year was our second year for this event and it was incredible!  We had 52 kids in attendance and 21 adults.  We used this day to educate kids of all ages about water monitoring and the "critters" that live in the bottom of the creek that need good clean water to live.   Check back often for more up coming events.    If you are interested in learning more about this please contact Tina Mills, Barry County Soil and Water Conservation District Technician and Project Manager at 417-847-4309 ext 110.
